Dushanbe, 22.03.2016 (NIAT “Khovar”).  –At least 23 people have been killed and dozens injured in Brussels after a series of terror attacks struck the city’s airport and a metro station near the EU headquarters.

Ten were killed at a subway station, according to two Belgian broadcasters, and at least 13 were killed at the airport, according to public broadcaster VRT. The terror threat level in Belgium has been raised to four, its highest level.

Kristalina Georgieva, the vice president of the EU Commission, said that all the organization’s institutions are at “alert level orange” and that all meetings on its premises and outside have been canceled.

Federal police at the airport at Zaventem told CNN that “there has been an explosion” and “something has happened.”

Dozens of people have been taken on stretchers out of the airport, according to eyewitnesses.

The Belgian crisis center tweeted that all public transportation in the city has been closed.

Brussels international airport Zaventem is located 11 km to the North-East of the capital. The airport’s twitter account advises to avoid the area and informs flights have been cancelled as the evacuation is underway. Railway transport to the airport is also suspended.

Local media say the blasts happened at around 8 am local time.
