UN Under-Secretary-General Voronkov: Tajikistan is One of the Leaders in the Fight Against Terrorism
DUSHANBE, 16.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) — Today, following the meeting with President Emomali Rahmon, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations’ Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov called Tajikistan one of the leaders in the fight against terrorism.
«Tajikistan is one of the leaders in the fight against terrorism in the Central Asian region and the world,» said Voronkov.
During the meeting with President Emomali Rahmon, the officials discussed the program of the upcoming high-level conference International and Regional Cooperation in the Fight Against Terrorism and Its Financing Sources Through Illicit Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime. The conference will commence tomorrow.
«This conference will be an undoubted success for the international community. The topic of terrorism is still relevant, so the leading role of Tajikistan in this area is very important for the final victory over this evil,» emphasized Voronkov.
Foreign ministers, heads of bodies responsible for the fight against security threats and challenges, representatives of civil society, research circles and diplomatic corps are expected to take part in the conference, as are representatives of 50 states and more than 27 international and regional organizations. More than 200 foreign journalists will be covering the event.
