Tajikistan Implements Perinatal Audit System

DUSHANBE, 21.08.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – Considering the fact that people’s health is the most important condition for the development of the country, Tajikistan’s government is attaching paramount importance to the issues related to public health.

Although significant progress has been made to improve maternal and child health in Tajikistan, the number of perinatal losses is still high, reported in the Tajik Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population.

In order to decrease their occurance, a detailed analysis of newborn deaths and stillbirths is needed.

To this end, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population together with the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the WHO Representative Office in Tajikistan conducted an audit of stillbirth and early neonatal mortality as a tool to improve the quality of perinatal care.

Tajikistan Implements Perinatal Audit System (2)The participants got acquainted with the experience of implementing perinatal audit in the countries of the European region, in particular, Moldova and Georgia, both at the medical institution and national levels.

A confidential audit of perinatal deaths was also conducted in order to deepen scientific and theoretical knowledge.

The organization of required steps to deal with the issue and improve current conditions is planned to take place in the near future by the National Committee of Perinatal Audit under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan. A confidential audit of cases of perinatal deaths using international classification of diseases for perinatal mortality, as well as new WHO recommendations is also planned.
