Kazakh President’s Party Wins 82.15% of Votes in Parliament Election
Dushanbe, 21.03.2016 (NIAT “Khovar”). — In the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan, according to preliminary data, has defeated political party «Nur Otan» («Fatherland Light»), chaired by the President Nursultan Nazarbayev. She scored 82,15% of the votes, reports the website of the Central election Commission (CEC) of the country.
According to the CEC, the party «AK Zhol» («Bright path») and the Communist people’s party (CPP) was able to overcome the barrier of 7% required to enter Parliament. «AK Zhol» has typed 7,18% of the vote, CPP — 7,14% of the vote.
This means that in the lower house of Parliament are still submitted to these three parties. The final results of elections of deputies of the Majilis (lower chamber) of the Parliament will be published no later than 26 March, it was reported by the CEC.
Nazarbayev congratulated his party at a victory. He also said that this victory is a victory of all people of Kazakhstan, reports Inform.kz.
«We are in a joyful state. Yesterday we won. «Nur Otan» won. Defeated our multi-ethnic people of Kazakhstan,» said Nazarbayev, addressing the participants of the winners ‘ forum in Astana.
He also noted a record turnout for the election, which, according to the CEC, was 77.1%. «This is a record in our history», — said Nazarbayev. In the previous elections to the Parliament of Kazakhstan in 2012 the turnout was 75,45%.
An additional 65 polling stations were set up in foreign countries like China and Russia for voters traveling in those countries.
The election was monitored by 964 international observers from 103 countries and eight international organizations.
In January, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev decided to dissolve the Majilis and hold an early election in response to public calls by Majilis members.
The current Majilis was elected in 2012. In that election, Nazarbayev’s Nur Otan party won an overwhelming 80 percent of the votes, securing 83 seats of the total 98 seats.
