Iceland beats England to reach Euro 2016 quarter-finals
Dushanbe, 28.06.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. Iceland has defeated England 2-1 at the playoff match of Euro 2016.
The match was played in Nice on Monday.
The goals were scored by Iceland’s Ragnar Sigurdsson in the 6th minute and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson in the 18th minute, and England’s Wayne Rooney in the 4th minute.
Iceland will face France, which defeated Ireland 2-1 at the playoff stage, in the quarter-finals on July 3.
The Euro 2016 is held in France between June 10 and July 10 with matches played in 10 different locations, namely in Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse.
A total of 24 European national teams qualified for the Euro Cup final tournament in 2016, after the contestants’ format, which was used since 1996, was decided to be extended from 16 to 24 teams.
