Cameron plans to resign July 13
Dushanbe, 12.07.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Monday he will step down on July 13 and current Home Secretary Theresa May will take over the post on the same day.
«On July 12 I will chair my last cabinet meeting. On Wednesday I will attend the House of Commons for prime minister’s questions. And then after that I expect to go to the [Buckingham] Palace and offer my resignation, so we will have a new prime minister in that building behind me by Wednesday evening,» Cameron told reporters who gathered outside 10 Downing Street.
Cameron also said he is happy that May will be his successor.
«I’m also delighted that Theresa May will be the next prime minister. She is strong, she is competent, she’s more than able to provide the leadership the country is going to need in the years ahead and she will have my full support,» he said.
May, 59, is to become Britain’s first female prime minister since Margaret Thatcher, who governed from 1979 to 1990.
