Saudi Arabia detained Turkey’s military attaché to Kuwait at request of Ankara
Dushanbe, 18.07.2016. /NIAT «Khovar»/. Saudi authorities at the request of Ankara detained Turkey’s military attaché to Kuwait who had been flying through the eastern city of Dammam on Sunday evening, Xinhua news agency reported quoting Saudi-owned TV channel Al Arabiya.
The attache, Mikail Gullu, had been en route to Amsterdam, the report said.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said earlier on Sunday in a statement that the failed military coup has left at least 290 people killed.
The death toll includes at least 190 civilians and 100 coup plotters, the statement said, adding that more than 1,400 were wounded in the coup attempt that swept the country on Friday night but was foiled by Saturday morning.
More than 6,000 have been detained so far due to their involvement in the coup, the foreign ministry statement said.
