The EU Council adopted the outcome document for migration
Dushanbe, 21.10.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The European Council adopted on Thursday, 20 October in Brussels the outcome document on migration, which should include, as priorities strengthening the protection of external borders and control of migration flows.
In particular, the European Council calls for the early adoption of the revised Schengen borders code with the strengthening of the systematic monitoring of all travellers crossing the external borders and calls upon the EU Council to define its position in the system of entry-exit to the end of 2016″.
European leaders are also expected from the European Commission proposals for the establishment of a European information system on travels ETIAS.
As for migration flows, and aims to prevent illegal migration route of the Central Mediterranean, to maintain and strengthen the control on the route of the Eastern Mediterranean and to remain vigilant with respect to other routes.
The European Council called for increased efforts to accelerate resettlement of migrants, particularly unaccompanied minors and to agree before year-end position on the investment plan aimed at boosting investment and creating new jobs in the partner countries of origin of migration.
The EU summit also expects the continuation of the reform of the common European asylum system, including on how to apply the principles of responsibility and solidarity in the future.
The European Council decided to return to these issues in December.
