Dushanbe, 11.11.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The German consulate in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif came under attack early on Friday, no diplomats were injured, TASS reports citing the German Foreign Ministry.
“The German consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif came under an armed attack. Clashes took place near the consulate and on its premises”, — the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry later said that the assault has been repelled and none of the embassy staff was injured.
At least four people died in the attack, all of them citizens of Afghanistan DPA reported citing local doctors. About 120 were injured.
A bomb-laden vehicle crashed into the wall that surrounds the embassy, followed by an armed assault. The radical Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that it was a revenge for a US airstrike in the province of Kunduz that left more than 30 civilians dead about a week ago.
