At least 20 dead as powerful earthquake hits Indonesia — media
DUSHANBE, 07.12.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. At least 20 people were killed in the north of Indonesia’s Sumatra Island when a 6.4-magnitude earthquake stroke off the country’s coast Wednesday, China’s Xinhua news agency said.
Many buildings and infrastructure objects collapsed in the disaster, and many people are feared to be trapped under the rubble.
The quake struck at 5:03 local time (03:03 Dushanbe time). It was centered 92 kilometers east of the western Indonesian city of Banda Aceh, at a depth of some 10 kilometers, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre said.
