Berlin truck crash death toll rises to 12
DUSHANBE, 20.12.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The truck crash at the Christmas market in Berlin has killed 12 people, Berlin police wrote on their official Twitter account on Tuesday.
It was earlier reported that nine people were killed in the crash.
Forty-eight people were hospitalized, some of them in a serious condition, TASS reports quoting police.
A truck has crashed into the crowd at the Christmas market in the central part of West Berlin ― on Breitscheidplatz near the Kurfurstendamm street. The incident occurred at 8:20pm local time. The truck drove around 80 meters through the market.
The police preliminarily classified the incident as «an attack,» but Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere admitted that a terrorist attack is not ruled out.
