President Emomali Rahmon: “We are still considerably behind in the practical implementation of the set goals and objectives in the field of ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation”
DUSHANBE, 20.06.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, welcoming guests of the International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, in 2018-2028, expressed view on the need to pay special attention to water problem. Leader of the Nation stated, in particular: “At the same time, the following facts, which are well known to you, indicate that mobilization of common efforts has not yet produced the desired effect:
– more than 800 million and 2.5 billion of the world’s population, respectively, do not have access to safe drinking water and basic services in the field of water sanitation;
– annually up to 300 thousand children under the age of five die due to lack of access to safe drinking water and sanitation».
President Emomali Rahmon said in continuation that all this indicates that we are still considerably behind in the practical implementation of the set goals and objectives in the field of ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation.
“Today’s conference will provide an opportunity to prepare concrete recommendations on the topic of the forthcoming meeting of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, where the SDG 6 will be discussed”, — expressed confidence the Head of Tajik state.
We will recall that International High-Level Conference is being continued in Dushanbe city with the participation of heads of a number of countries, representatives of the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the European Union, the representatives of 110 countries, various UN agencies, international financial institutions, major business circles, international and regional organizations, community associations, as well as other scientific and research institutions.
