DUSHANBE, 19.06.2018 /NIAT “Khovar”/. Today, the pre-conference events of the International High-Level Conference, timed to the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028 have started in the National Library of Tajikistan, NIAT “Khovar” correspondent reports.

Among these events is “Water and science — in the purpose of achieving a sustainable future”. The opening ceremony of this pre-conference event was attended by representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia and international institutions.

A welcoming speech on behalf of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan was made by the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, Hikmat Muminov, who noted the contribution of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in solving water problems. Illustrative examples are the International Water Decades, initiated by President Emomali Rahmon. These are the proclamation of 2003 as the International Year of Freshwater, 2005-2015 as the International Decade for Action “Water for Life”, 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation and the new International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.

According to the moderators, the pre-conference event is aimed at strengthening partnership in the academic community in order to make research more transparent, cooperative and accessible — opening up new opportunities for science in the field of water resources management. Providing open access to data, the integrity of research, knowledge exchange guarantee the sustainable development of science and society.

“In order to solve the problems, there is a need to intensify cooperation and establish links between scientists, decision makers and practitioners, as well as to strengthen the research potential in the field of water resources in general”, — emphasized the participants of the pre-conference event on “Water and science — in the purpose of achieving a sustainable future”.

Also, the exhibition “Water Technologies and Education” was organized within the framework of this event.

This is the first exhibition where global and regional organizations meet to exchange experience and knowledge aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation.

A Declaration will be adopted following the pre-conference event “Water and science — in the purpose of achieving a sustainable future”.
