DUSHANBE, 27.12.2018. (NIAT Khovar) – The capital of Tajikistan has become one of the most popular destinations for Russians during winter holidays.

The Russian analytical agency TurStat has included Dushanbe in its top tenlist of the most popularcities from the Commonwealth of Independent Statesfor Russians during the New Year holidays.

The list is based on the analysis of the popularity of tourist trips during the current winter period.

Tajikistan has the highest mountains in Central Asia. Approximately 93% of the country is mountainous. It is an ideal place for fans of extreme tourism and mountaineering.  Tajikistan has a number of famous mountains with altitudes over 5,000 km, such as Bodhona, Chapdara, Kasr, Mirali and Neru. The modern Safed-Dara ski resort, which is located 70 km from Dushanbe is a popular destination for both adults and children.

Winter is also the best time to relax in the country’s numerous hot springs. One such site, Garmchashma, is one of the most famous attraction sitesin western Pamir.

On average tourists visit for a period of three to seven days and spend between $50 to $100 per day, according to TurStat.

Minsk, Baku, Astana, Tashkent, Chisinau, Bishkek and Ashgabat also made the list.
