President Emomali Rahmon: Tajikistan Achieved Its Second Strategic Goal
DUSHANBE, 27.12.2018. (NIAT Khovar) – During his annual address to the country’s bicameral parliament on Wednesday, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon touched upon the main areas of domestic and foreign policy.
The President noted that since the country’s independence more than 2100km of international and national roads and more than 1000km of domestic roads were built and renovated.
“In 2018 almost 200 km of domestic and international roads and 45 bridges have been constructed and renovated,” stated Emomali Rahmon and added that “currently 14 public transportation investment projects with the total cost of 7.5 billion somoni [approximately $794 000 000] are being implemented.”
“As result of the construction of international highways connecting Tajikistan with the People’s Republic of China, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, and as a consequence of resuming the operation of railways and 16 border checkpoints with Uzbekistan, we ensured our country’s connectivity and thereby achieved our second strategic goal,” he continued.
The President urged the governing bodies to undertake additional measures aimed at expanding the transportation corridor networks and improving the infrastructure, accessing seaports, constructing border terminals and logistic centers, renovating thetransportation parks, as well as increasing the transportation of goods and products.
