Sada Holiday Celebrations Commence in Dushanbe This Sunday
DUSHANBE, 24.01.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – An event in observance of Sada holiday will be held on January 27 in the Park of Culture and Recreation named after Firdavsi in Dushanbe.
The event will include an exhibition of agricultural crop seeds. Harvesting equipment, breeds of domestic animals, national dishes and folk crafts will be presented during the festivity, reports the Press Secretary of the Tajik Ministry of Agriculture Yoqubjon Uroqov.
Those in attendance can view a cultural art program with the participation of Tajik artists.
Similar events organized to celebrate Sada will take place in all districts and cities of Tajikistan.
“Scholars trace the origin of Sada holiday to the Aryan civilization. Our ancestors collected firewood in late winter and set fires on wide squares. Doing so, they called for a return to warmth, dance, fun and joy,” notes Uroqov.
The parliament adopted amendments in late October 2017 making Sada, which falls on January 30, a national holiday. This year it will be celebrated for the second time.
Sada was known before the Middle Ages and was celebrated as the forerunner of Navruz. Since ancient times Sada was celebrated 50 days before the onset of Navruz.
The traditions and customs of Aryans date back to more than three thousand years. The ancient traditions are most clearly manifested in the holidays celebrated today, such as Shabi Yaldo, Sada, Navruz, Mehrgon and others.
Sada is the oldest holiday celebrated by Tajiks. The word ‘sad’ in Tajik means one hundred, and refers fifty days and fifty nights before the beginning of Navruz or to a hundred children of Kayumars, the first human being in the world according to Avestan and Zoroastrian texts.
