DUSHANBE, 02.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – A meeting of defense ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states was held in Bishkek.

Tajik, Armenian, Belarusian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Russia delegations discussed the challenges and threats in Central Asia and the organization of joint action to reduce the tension in the Tajik-Afghan border, reports Khovar with reference to the CIS Executive Committee.

A number of documents, in particular, relating to the preparation of governing bodies and forces, as well as means of the collective security system for the next year, a consultation plan on foreign policy, security and defense issues were likewise discussed, according to the Press Service of the Kyrgyz General Staff.

Additionally, the meeting participants were received by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov.

“Our countries are faced with the most important tasks of ensuring state security. Kyrgyzstan attaches paramount importance to the further deepening of regional integration, including within the SCO, CIS and CSTO. In the interest of ensuring collective security, Kyrgyzstan will continue to work to improve the organization. The stated priorities of our chairmanship are focused on maintaining continuity,” emphasized Jeenbekov.

Speaking on behalf of the CSTO defense ministers, the Defense Minister of Belarus Andrei Ravkov wished President of Kyrgyzstan success.

Following the meeting, Jeenbekov expressed confidence in the successful implementation of all the planned activities for the current year and wished everyone productive work, success in developing and strengthening the organization.
