President Emomali Rahmon: The Forces of International Terrorism and Extremism Have Shaken the Foundations of International Security
DUSHANBE, 17.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Commencing the high-level conference International and Regional Cooperation in the Fight Against Terrorism and its Financing Sources, Including Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime today in Dushanbe, President Emomali Rahmon spoke about the threats arising from extremism and terrorism.
“The actions of the forces of international terrorism and extremism have shaken the foundations of the international security, have caused instability in various regions of the world and threaten the life and well-being of ordinary citizens. Moreover, the phenomenon of international terrorism is increasingly intensifying, which poses a great threat to the fate of the world,” said President Emomali Rahmon.
“That is why today the joint and purposeful struggle of states and peoples, international institutions and societies, first of all, with the roots and causes of manifestations of terrorism takes on a particular significance. In this regard, in the first place stands the issue of strengthening the potential of countries and their special structures in order to prevent terrorism, extremism and fight against them,” emphasized President Emomali Rahmon.
“In addition to the armed struggle against terrorism, it is necessary to pay special attention to solving social and economic problems, which if unresolved, in some cases, may serve as the main cause of radicalism. It seems appropriate to establish effective cooperation, including through the provision of financial and technical assistance to vilnerable countries,” he continued.
“If we keep in mind our region, it should be noted that the actions of extremist and radical groups pose a serious threat to the Central Asian countries. They disguise their selfish goals with religious slogans and gather their supporters under the banner of the struggle for social justice,” noted President Emomali Rahmon.
“However, in reality, they are aiming at changing the secular structure of the states of the region and use all means and methods to seize political power. Tajikistan, which in its recent history has experienced the tragic consequences of the terrible manifestations of terrorism and extremism, is well acquainted with the similar hidden goals of their bearers,” he added.
