Tajik Film Hurry Shown in Cannes for the First Time in the History of Tajik Cinema
DUSHANBE, 27.05.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The short film Hurry by a young Tajik director Muhiddin Sulaimoni was shown to guests of the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival on Wednesday, May 22.
The 13-minute film Hurry was filmed and mounted by TV Sinamo in 2018 in Dushanbe for only 20 days. Sulaimoni works as the chief editor of this TV channel.
The main roles are played by Tajik actors Nozim Melikov, Juma Rustami, Mavlona Najmiddinova and Manizha Kholova. The operator of the film is Abdukarim Urokov. The editor is Komil Sugdiyon, and the sound engineer is Shahriniso Yakovleva.
Nozim plays the role of the father, the head of a commercial company, Juma Rustami plays the role of his only son. The role of the dead girl plays Manizha Kholova, and her mother Mavlona Najmiddinova.
“The plot of the film is as follows: While driving his car in the middle of the night, a young is on his phone, talking. Suddenly, he hears the sound of a strong blow and stops the car. Getting out of it, he sees a girl lying on the ground. In a hurry, he calls his father. How do they get out of this situation? The essence of the film lies precisely in this. This film is a kind of warning that a person in all life situations should not lose self-control and endurance, must be careful, not to rush, to think through every step,” said Sulaimoni in an interview with Khovar’s correspondent.
“The film Hurry was shown in the hall of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on May 22 at 14:30 French time. A press conference was organized with the young directors, whose films were shown on the same day. I said there and reiterate it now, that I express my gratitude to everyone with whose help I got here. I thank the leadership of TV Sinamo for their support on making this film and the creative team, which worked along with me for several days and nights,” said Sulaimoni.
The 72nd Cannes International Film Festival took place on the French Cote d’Azur from May 14 to May 25. The leading directors, screenwriters and actors from 39 countries, including from Tajikistan participated in this festival.
Twenty one films, of which more than half represent Europe, competed for prize. The competition jury was headed by the Mexican director Alejandro González Inarritu.
The festival was summed up on May 25.
