Tajik and Kyrgyz PMs Meet to Discuss the Situation at the Tajik-Kyrgyz Border
DUSHANBE, 18.09.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – The Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda met with the Kyrgyz Prime Minister Muhammedkalyi Abylgaziev yesterday at the Kyzyl-Bel checkpoint at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
The meeting focused on the issues relating the adoption of joint measures to de-escalate the situation at the Tajik-Kyrgyz section of the state border in connection with the fatal incident which occurred on September 16.
The officials expressed regret over the fact that the armed incident led to the death of military personnel, and expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
The parties called for the intensification of multifaceted joint work on delimiting and demarcating the state border and eliminating the issues hindering cross-border cooperation.
Rasulzoda and Abylgaziev reaffirmed their mutual commitment to previously reached agreements and noted their readiness to take a constructive approach to resolving emerging issues.
The counterparts instructed the heads of border services and local self-governing bodies of the two states to intensify their interaction at all levels and to strengthen relevant explanatory work among the population of border villages.
The parties heighlighted the need to take comprehensive measures to relieve the tension in the border areas and prevent the escalation of the situation in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.
By the instruction of both officials, today their supervising deputies and the heads of border services of the two countries will continue to work together on location in order to speed up the resolution of outstanding issues.
