Tajik Athlete Sabrina Takes Second Place in West Asian Chess Championship
DUSHANBE, 06.09.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – Young Tajik chess player Sabrina Abrorova won the silver medal in the rapid-chess style U-14 in the Western Asia Youth and Junior Chess Championship-2019 (U 8 to 20 Open & Girls).
Competitions began in Delhi and will continue until September 11 with the inclusion of classical chess, rapid and blitz.
On the first day, Abrorova played seven rounds in rapid style and won five of them, defeating three Indian athletes, one Uzbek athlete and one athlete from Sri Lanka. She played one game with another Indian athlete that resulted in a draw, lost one round to the winner of this style, Indian Rohilla Shivike, and took second place, reported the Tajik National Olympic Committee.
Over 330 chess players from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh are taking part in the championship.
Earlier in the 5th World Junior Compatriot Games, which was held from June 1 through June 5 in the Russian Khanty-Mansiysk, Abrorova was awarded two medals — one gold and one silver.
