WTO Accepts Tajikistan’s Notification for B and C Obligation Categories
DUSHANBE, 02.09.2019 (NIAT Khovar) – Last year in order to implement the instruction of President Emomali Rahmon and with a view of increasing the economic benefit of the country, including compliance with the WTO requirements, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) in close collaboration with the WTO experts has developed and sent the notification of categories B and C obligations, which was accepted by the WTO.
The MEDT with the support of the International Trade Center (ITC) held a national seminar on «Prioritization, Sequencing and Strategizing the Implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement,» during which the categories A, B and C were explained to the participants and as a result categorization of the trade facilitation obligations were revised.
The Coordinating Committee on Facilitation of Trade Procedures approved the result of the seminar during its sixth meeting on 21 December, 2018 considering the comments and suggestions of the relevant ministries and agencies.
The official delegation of Tajikistan headed by the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda paid an official visit to Geneva, Switzerland, where he discussed the issues on implementation of trade facilitation obligations and the notification of categories B and C obligations.
As a result, on August 12, the notification of categories B and C obligations was published in the WTO’s official websites (www.wto.org and www.tfadatabase.org).
The implementation of category B requires additional time, as does category C with additional financial support from development partners.
Now, Tajikistan is able to attract financial and technical support from the development partners in order to implement categories В and С obligations.
