113 Followers of Muslim Brotherhood Arrested in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE, 28.01.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik law enforcement agencies arrested 113 members of the terrorist and extremist organization Ikhwan al-Muslimin, also known as the Muslim Brotherhood. This info was provided today by the Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon.
“Of those arrested in connection with the TEO Muslim Brotherhood, 20 are employees of Universities, one is an employee of the Chairman’s Office of Isfara and two are foreign citizens,” Rahmon said.
Rahmon denied the claims that an employee of the Presidential Executive Office and an employee of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population have also been arrested for having links with the Muslim Brotherhood.
He added that the Prosecutor General’s Office in collaboration with other relevant authorities, including the State Committee for National Security and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is continuing its search and investigation operations.
The Supreme Court of Tajikistan has declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist and extremist organization.
The group was established in 1928 in Egypt. Its main goal is the violent overthrow of power and the creation of an Islamic state.
This terrorist organization has influence in some North African countries and the Middle East. Followers of this terrorist organization came to power in Egypt during a state coup dubbed the Arab Spring in 2011, led by its leader Mohammed Morsi, who was then overthrown by the Egyptian army.
