Ziyoev: Decline in COVID-19 Cases Should Not Lead to Carelessness
DUSHANBE, 03.06.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Instances of COVID-19 infection are gradually declining in Tajikistan and the number of those who are recovering is increasing. This fact, however, should not lead to public carelessness says scientist Subhiddin Ziyoev.
Ziyoyev is urging residents to maintain the high standard of personal hygiene, and not to abandon other measures that have been recommended by doctors and other specialists.
“No country has yet succeeded in eradicating COVID-19 completely,” he adds.
“Recurrent outbreaks in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Navoi, and Kashkadarya regions prompted the Republican COVID-19 Pandemic Combat Commission to extend the quarantine regime in the neighboring Uzbekistan until June 15,” he notes.
“More than 40 cities and districts in Uzbekistan are still in the dangerous, or the “red” zone, and the epidemiological situation is still worrisome,” says Ziyoyev.
According to him, relaxing the quarantine and other measure created the unwarranted impression that the infectious disease had been completely eradicated. As a result, most people in Uzbekistan were seen without medical masks, not observing social distancing, and some even began holding gatherings at home.
“All this can lead to new problems,” he notes.
“Autumn may bring with it a second wave of outbreaks. Many individuals are carriers without specific symptoms and can still infect others,” noted he.
Until there is a cure or a vaccine, all the cautionary measures must still be followed.
