Secretaries of the SCO Security Council Discuss Issues Relating to Ensuring Security and Stability in the Region

DUSHANBE, 15.09.2020. (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the 15th meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held via video conference where the Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Nasrullo Mahmudzoda delivered speech about the role and status of Tajikistan in ensuring regional security and stability and strengthening interstate cooperation within the SCO.
The meeting focused on the issues relating to ensuring security and stability in the region, measures to strengthen cooperation between the SCO member states in the fight against terrorism, extremism, separatism, drug and arms trafficking, as well as transnational organized crime.
The parties also exchanged views on the situation in the region and the world during the outbreak of COVID-19, and considered it necessary to work together and share experiences to prevent the outbreak of the second wave of the disease.
The Secretaries of the Security Council also discussed the issues relating to the next meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State.
It was stressed that the Tajik government is interested in further strengthening cooperation with the SCO member states and other regional and international organizations and will take the necessary measures in this direction within the framework of open doors policy.
