Tajikistan Takes Over the CSTO Presidency

DUSHANBE, 17.11.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Secretary of the Security Council of Tajikistan Nasrullo Mahmudzoda took part at the meeting of the Secretaries Committee of the Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Member States via video conference.
The meeting focused on the issues relating to the security within the CSTO, the process of cooperation between member states in ensuring medical and biological security, the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, transnational crime, the involvement of citizens, including youth, in extremist organizations and movements, and the prevention of these trends.
The parties also expressed their views on the spread of COVID-19 and noted the necessity of working together to eliminate the current situation.
Since the outbreak of this infectious disease, Tajikistan has established fruitful cooperation with the countries of the region and the world, and has taken urgent measures to prevent and treat patients.
“The government of Tajikistan is interested in strengthening integration with the CSTO countries and other regional and international organizations, and in this regard is constantly implementing specific measures within the open door policy,” said Mahmudzoda.
The meeting adopted a Statement by the Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils On strengthening cooperation and coordination of efforts in order to combat international terrorism, the spread of terrorist and related extremist ideology.
Following the meeting, a number of important documents were adopted and the chairmanship of the organization was transferred from Russia to Tajikistan.
The next meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils will be held in the first half of 2021 in Dushanbe
