DUSHANBE, 12.02.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Fifth of the population of Tajikistan will be provided with the vaccine through the COVAX program mechanism. The remaining 80% of the population will be provided with the vaccine at the expense of Tajikistan. This was announced today at a press conference by the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Jamoliddin Abdullozoda.
According to the WHO data on the distribution of drugs in the post-Soviet countries, 732,000 doses of AstraZeneca will be allocated free of charge for Tajikistan.
“Over 6 million people should be vaccinated against COVID-19 in Tajikistan. Vaccination of the population depends on what kind of vaccine will be provided to the country. If we talk about the Russian vaccine, over 5.8 million people will be vaccinated,” Abdullozoda noted.
According to him, the government is currently negotiating with Russia regarding the purchase and delivery of the vaccine. However, it will be acquired after WHO approval.
