Director of the Drug Control Agency Attends the UN Commission on Drugs Session

DUSHANBE, 13.04.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the UN Commission on Narcotics opened its 64th session, which will be held online until April 16. The delegation of Tajikistan was represented by the Director of the Drug Control Agency Habibullo Vohidzoda.
The session was attended by the heads of the authorized bodies of the UN member states and representatives of other organizations.
Vohidzoda spoke about Tajikistan’s drugs related statistics in 2020, about the achievements and problems in the fight against drug trafficking, the prevention of drug addiction, and the danger of the spread of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances among the population, especially young people.
Participants exchanged views on the ways these types of drugs are marketed and sold with the help of social media platforms, which complicates the work of law enforcement agencies.
Vohidzoda also called on the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and other countries participating in the meeting to coordinate the work of the international community to prevent such illegal activities.
Also, the Tajik delegation took part in the panel events of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the UNODC titled “International mechanisms and regional measures, the 60th anniversary of the UN Single Convention on Drugs and the 10th anniversary of the memorandum between the SCO and UNODC,» as well as in the the panel event organized by Russia on the topic of “The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the global drug problem: new threats and prospects.» Both events were held in an online format.
