Anna Bjerde: World Bank Is Tajikistan’s Sustainable and Reliable Partner

DUSHANBE, 19.04.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The World Bank remains one of the most sustainable and reliable partners of Tajikistan in reducing poverty and promoting equitable development. This was stated today in Dushanbe at a briefing of the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Minister Anna Bjerde following her meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.
“We discussed topical issues of relations and cooperation between the World Bank and Tajikistan. In particular, one of them was the support of Tajikistan by the World Bank to eliminate the consequences of COVID-19. In this context, the World Bank is helping to support the health sector and provide for people in need in Tajikistan,” Bjerde noted.
She said that Tajikistan was one of the first to use the emergency programs of the World Bank. As part of the program, a certain amount of vaccine against COVID-19 was provided to Tajikistan.
Bjerde stressed that the meeting also focused on tax reform, digitalization of the Tajik economy, which will create a more stable environment for future investors and the private sector and have a positive impact on attracting foreign investment.
“Tajikistan possesses hydropower potential and rich resources of green energy, which are able to provide the entire country, as well as the region,” the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia added.
