DUSHANBE, 05.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On May 3, Secretary General of the Chingiz Aitmatov Issyk-Kul Forum, TV presenter, public activist from Kyrgyzstan Assol Moldokmatova shared her post on a social media platform about the alleged reaction of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to her letter.
According to Moldokmatova, she was informed that President Erdoğan received her open letter wherein she wrote her complaint about the “threat from Tajikistan for Kyrgyzstan,” and that the letter caused an immediate reaction from the Turkish leader.
“Public figure of Turkey Ömer Erdoğan has just informed me that my open letter came to the Turkish President and caused an immediate reaction from Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to Ömer, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited representatives of the Foreign Ministry and ordered them to warn Tajikistan against repeating such steps against the friendly Kyrgyz Republic,» she wrote in there post.
“The Secretary General of the Issyk-Kul Forum has made up an unprecedented story. She lied without a twinge of conscience in order to ensure herself cheap popularity in society. None of the official publications or websites of Turkey leaked information about Erdogan’s “warning” regarding Tajikistan.
On the contrary, it is about Turkey’s readiness to help both countries,» said Khovar’s correspondent in Turkey Manizha Maksud, after her inquiry into the matter.
So, why did Moldokmatova mention the name Ömer, who has nothing to do with the Turkish President?
«We tried to meet with Ömer and ask him this question, but he did not want to talk about this topic. The fact is that Ömer is a filmmaker and public figure who owns the KAFYAPIM production studio. He also wrote a two-volume book called Awakening of the Steppe by Chingiz Aitmatov.
Even if we pay attention to these works, there is a connection between Ömer and Moldokmatova. That is, one of them runs the Aitmatov forum, and the other wrote a book about Chingiz Aitmatov. That is, apparently, Ömer did not want to refute Moldokmatova’s fable and offend her,» noted Maksud.
On November 20, 2020, Moldokmatova posted the following on her Facebook page:
“Ömer Erdogan, an eminent director, impressed me with his knowledge of Chyngyz Aitmatov’s literature. Analytical mind, balanced view, philosopher, intellectual. For two days, spiritual conversations…”
However, in his recent tweet, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu did not mention any of Moldokmatova’s information about the Turkish President and allegations of the Tajik threat:
«Talked on the phone with FM Ruslan Kazakbaev of Kyrgyzstan and FM Sirojiddin Muhriddin of Tajikistan. Wishing the problem between two brotherly countries to be resolved peacefully. Ready to give assistance if needed. Pleased with ceasefire protocol.”
Additionally, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, at a meeting with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries, Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop said that they want to take the necessary steps to resolve the problems between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, since both are friendly and fraternal countries and that Turkey is ready to provide any assistance.
On May 4, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khusrav Noziri met with the Ambassador of Turkey to Tajikistan Emre Zeki Karagol, where he was informed about the recent events and the current situation at the Tajik and Kyrgyz border. Noziri noted that Dushanbe has a strong political will to resolve all boarder issues with Kyrgyzstan through negotiations and based on previous mutual agreements.
Referring to the long-standing friendly relations and cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey, Karagol noted that the Turkish side supports the resumption of talks between the delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and joint efforts to resolve border disputes between the two neighboring countries. He also expressed Turkey’s readiness to provide necessary assistance to Tajikistan and the victims of the armed conflict.
P.S. When the material was posted on the website, Omer Erdogan deleted Assol’s post from his Facebook page. Assol herself left the following entry on her page: “Regarding the dialogue with Omer Erdogan: what he told me in the correspondence, I posted it, having agreed with him the text in advance.”
