Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan Agree On Full Ceasefire and Withdrawal of Troops

DUSHANBE, 01.05.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed on a full ceasefire and the withdrawal of troops. The corresponding protocol was signed today by the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov and the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev, following the results of negotiations between governmental delegations on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border in Batken region.

Yatimov noted that the border delimitation commissions have gathered today to resolve all disputes that remain between the two states.

“Today a very fruitful conversation took place, initiated by the heads of state of the two countries. The tragedy that has occurred in the border areas must never be repeated. They live a long and historical We, politicians, must resolve issues so that our people can live in peace and friendship. An agreement was reached on resolving issues in the interests of ensuring peace and stability in the Kyrgyz and Tajik lands. I think we can do it. We will solve all problems as soon as possible and our people will live in friendship and understanding and complete stability will be ensured,” Yatimov said.

“We have adopted a four-point protocol which is in the interests of the two countries. Yes, today the Kyrgyz and Tajik people are going through a very difficult time. There was a tragedy, a tragedy of two countries. It was very difficult for us to meet at such a time, but nevertheless, on behalf of our heads of state, we held this event. As a result, a decision was made to withdraw military formations located near the border to their permanent locations. I hope that soon there will be calm in our countries, especially in the border areas,” Tashiev said.
