Population of Tajikistan Is Approaching 10 Million

DUSHANBE, 13.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – As of October 1, the population of Tajikistan is nearing 10 million. The exact number is 9.66 million people. This was announced yesterday by the Director of the Statistics Agency Gulnora Hasanzoda at the presentation of the preliminary results of the population and housing census in Tajikistan.
“In comparison to the 2010 census, the population has grown by 2.97 million people, or by 27.7%. Compared to January 1, 2020, there are 347,800 more people, which is an equivalent to a 3.7% increase,” Hasanzoda said.
According to the forecasts, the population will grow by more than 1.5 million people in 10 years.
The population and housing census took place in 2020 with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) within the framework of the Program for the Improvement of State Statistics in Tajikistan for 2020-2023.
The main results of the 2020 Population and Housing Census of Tajikistan for 2020-2024 will be published and available to users in 11 volumes. The data on the size and location of the population, gender and age structure, marital status, ethnic composition, knowledge of languages, citizenship, and level of education will be released in 2022.
The data on the number and composition of households, sources of livelihood, employment by type of economic activity, housing stock and housing conditions, length of residence, and migration will be published thereafter in 2023.
Data regarding birth rate and disabilities will be published in 2024.
