DUSHANBE, 07.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The US provided 20 J8 vehicles to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Defense to help the country to secure its borders, reports the US Embassy in Dushanbe.
The vehicles, which are valued at $1.4 million, will enable the Special Forces under Tajikistan’s Ministry of Defense to conduct operations in the uneven terrain of the border regions.
The US Ambassador to Tajikistan John Mark Pommersheim and Deputy Minister for Logistics of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Defense, General-Major Khusrav Bobozoda participated in a handover ceremony for the light-utility vehicles, which took place on October 5.

“This donation is just one example of the assistance we provide to Tajikistan to secure its borders. We are grateful for Tajikistan’s close cooperation in the field of border security and are proud of our joint achievements. We remain partners in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, and nuclear proliferation. We are stronger when we work together,” said Ambassador Pommersheim.
Since 1992, the US has provided over $330 million to Tajikistan’s security sector. As part of this assistance, Tajikistan’s military has been provided with 358 vehicles, valued at $10.5 million.
