DUSHANBE, 14.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Every day hundreds of Afghans strive to cross the state border into Tajikistan. This was stated yesterday by the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov during a meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of his participation in the meeting of the heads of security and intelligence services of the CIS countries, reports Russian news agency Sputnik.
“Especially over the past two months, we feel the onslaught of people who want to emigrate from Afghanistan to Tajikistan. The number of refugees has already exceeded 15,000 people,” he said.
According to Yatimov, every day 500 to 600 people want to cross the state border into Tajikistan’s territory.
He also noted that the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and ammunition from the neighboring state has increased.
Yatimov emphasized that now Tajikistan is in a position where border guards and other security agencies have to be at a constant state of readiness.
