UN Under Secretary-General Visits Drug Control Agency

DUSHANBE, 29.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – On Saturday, UN Under Secretary-General, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Fathi Waly visited the Drug Control Agency of Tajikistan where she got acquainted with the agency’s activities and met with its leadership.
Agency Director Habibullo Vohidzoda noted the role of UNODC in bilateral cooperation in the fight against drugs and drug addiction prevention, in particular in financial, material and technical support for the activities of the agency and other authorized bodies of Tajikistan.
The parties discussed the current drug situation in Afghanistan and the region, as well as the implementation of the new UNODC Program for Central Asia for 2022-2025, and in this regard, considered the concept of creating new inter-district departments of the agency in the border areas of the Khatlon region.
Along with this, Vohidzoda informed the UNODC delegation about the anti-drug policy of Tajikistan, about its priorities and the achievements of the country’s law enforcement agencies in its implementation.
The guests got acquainted with the activities of the Kennel Service and the Special Forces of the Agency, and also took part in the procedure for burning drugs.
Following the visit, the parties expressed satisfaction with the contribution of UNODC toward the development of bilateral cooperation aimed at further strengthening the agency’s potential in the field of drug control and drug addiction prevention.
