DUSHANBE, 07.12.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Equipment for safety and radiation monitoring worth over $1 million was donated by the US to the Regional Training Center of Tajikistan’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency.
The equipment will help Tajikistan’s security forces combat the smuggling of nuclear and radioactive material into and within Tajikistan, reports the US Embassy in Dushanbe.
The equipment includes a mobile radiation detection unit, portable detection systems, surveillance equipment, vehicle inspection kits, and maintenance that will complement the GKNB’s anti-smuggling activities throughout the country.
The US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) will conduct a joint training with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to strengthen Tajik agencies’ law enforcement investigations in response to nuclear smuggling incidents.
