Today Tajikistan and Germany Mark 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations

DUSHANBE, 28.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today Tajikistan and Germany mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. On February 28, 1992, Germany recognized Tajikistan’s independence and in 1993 opened its diplomatic mission in Dushanbe, becoming the first EU member state with an embassy in the country. The first Embassy of Tajikistan in the EU was opened in Bonn, Germany.
On February 14, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon sent a congratulatory message to the Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, which reads as follow:
«Excellency,
I sincerely congratulate you on your re-election as President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
It is gratifying that the interstate relations between our countries, having received effective development to date, has acquired new constructive facets.
Strengthening friendly ties and multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation with Germany is one of the important directions of Tajikistan’s foreign policy, and we pay special attention to their steady development in various areas of mutual interests.
Taking this opportunity, I express the hope that the establishment of high-level meetings and contacts between the two sides will significantly contribute to raising the good relations between our countries to a qualitatively new level.
Tajikistan will out effort to further strengthen these relations.
I wish you good health and new success in fulfilling your responsible tasks, while to the friendly German people I wish peace, tranquility, happiness, and progress.»
Mutual visits at the highest level laid the foundation for multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany. In 2003 and 2011 President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Germany contributed to the development of bilateral political and economic relations.
During the visits, he met with the then German President Christian Wulf and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Tajikistan and Germany hold annual bilateral consultations and Intergovernmental meetings on the development of economic and technical cooperation on a regular basis, which serve as an important mechanism for strengthening and further developing relations.
Inter-parliamentary relations between the two states are currently developing intensively.
As of now, Tajikistan and Germany have signed 40 bilateral agreements, including 30 intergovernmental agreements, nine inter-departmental, and one joint statement. These agreements cover a wide range of bilateral cooperation.
Currently, the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Germany is Imomuddin Sattorov, and that of Germany to Tajikistan is Andreas Prothmann.
