Tajikistan and UN Strengthening Cooperation for Drug Control

DUSHANBE, 18.03.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sidelines of the 65th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan Habibullo Vohidzoda met with the UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Ghada Fathi Waly.
Vohidzoda informed about the presentation of the journal Overview of the Drug Situation in Tajikistan for 2021.
The parties discussed a number of topical issues, including strengthening cooperation with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime within the framework of the implementation of its programs for Central Asia for 2022-2025.
Considering the growing threats and dangers from Afghanistan, including illicit drug trafficking, arms trafficking, terrorist and extremist activities, human trafficking, and other transnational crimes, Vohidzoda called on the UN Office on Drugs and Crime to provide material and technical assistance to the authorized bodies of the country in order to strengthen the state borders of Tajikistan.
Following the meeting Waly noted that Japan and Italy have allocated funds to the countries of Central Asia for cross-border cooperation, which will also be sent to Tajikistan.
