Tajik Delegation Attends Seventh Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

DUSHANBE, 31.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The delegation of Tajikistan attended the seventh session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, which was held from May 24 through May 27 at the initiative of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the government of Indonesia.
The session was attended by the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mami Mizutori.
More than 7,000 participants from 92 countries registered for the session, which was also held via videoconference.
Tajikistan’s delegation, which included responsible persons of the Presidential Executive Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was headed by the Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense Rustam Nazarzoda.
Nazarzoda spoke about strengthening disaster risk reduction measures to overcome the climate emergency.
On the sidelines of the meeting Nazarzoda met with the Ministers for Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan and that of Belarus.
The meetings focused on further joint steps to implement current and planned joint activities.
Additionally, he held meetings with the head of the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Octavian Bivol, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mami Mizutori, and Secretary General of the International Civil Defense Organization Nzhupuo Yap Mariatu.
They discussed issues of creating the National Rescue Training Center, the Diving Center in Norak, training and retraining of personnel within the framework of INSARAG, as well as preparations for the next meeting of the heads of rescue departments of Central Asia, which is scheduled for October 2022 in Dushanbe.
