Tajik Athlete Wins Bronze Medal at the Asian Junior Wrestling Championship

DUSHANBE, 20.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Tajik athlete Hussein Hasanov won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 60 kg at the Asian U-17 Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship in Bishkek, reports the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan.
Hasanov started the tournament from the quarterfinals and lost to Iran’s Abulfazl Mirshakar. Since the Iranian athlete reached the final, Hussein was able to continue the competition. He defeated South Korea’s Huk Shomun in a repechage bout and Turkmenistan’s Shatlik Yunusov in a third-place contest.
On the first day, Tajik athletes Nodir Tursunzoda (55 kg), Ansor Rahmatzoda (92 kg), and Akram Jahongir (110 kg) competed and lost in the preliminary rounds.
For the first time, the Asian Wrestling Championship is held simultaneously in two age categories – U-17 and U-23.
The Tajik team went to Bishkek consisting of 14 people, including 8 juniors and 6 young wrestlers.
According to the regulations, the competition will be held among U-17 from June 19 through June 22 and among U-23 from June 23 through June 26.
