Tajikistan and IMF Discuss Preventing Potential Risks for the National Economy

DUSHANBE, 23.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 21, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda met with the Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Subir Lall.
The meeting focused on issues of preventing potential risks for the national economy.
The parties also discussed the socio-economic situation and current trends, measures taken by the government to prevent potential risks for the national economy, as well as the issue of financing the Rogun HPP and its importance in achieving the country’s strategic goals.
Zavkizoda noted that an interdepartmental commission has been created in Tajikistan to prevent the impact of potential risks on the national economy.
He also added that the governmental decree “On the Action Plan to prevent the impact of potential risks on the national economy”, which provides for 50 necessary measures, has been adopted and is being implemented.
In this regard, IMF representatives were invited to provide financial support to the national economy, in particular in the implementation of the Action Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as technical assistance to strengthen the system of macroeconomic modeling and forecasting.
The parties expressed their readiness to further expand cooperation in the field of reducing or preventing the impact of potential risks on the national economy and maintaining the stability of macroeconomic indicators.
