Russian Supreme Court Recognizes Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan* as a Terrorist Organization

DUSHANBE, 14.09.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Russia’s Supreme Court recognized the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan* (IRPT) as a terrorist organization and banned its activities, reports Izvestia.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Earlier, the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office applied to the Supreme Court with a demand to recognize the IRPT* as a terrorist organization.
«The court satisfied the claim of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to recognize the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan* as a terrorist [organization] and ban its activities,” a court representative told Interfax.
The organization was banned in Tajikistan in September 2015. In 2017, the party was included in the list of terrorist organizations of the SCO anti-terrorist structure.
The IRPT* is also included in the list of organizations recognized as terrorist and extremist in the CSTO. The IRPT* was included in the list at number 65. The list also includes international terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda, Islamic State, Muslim Brotherhood, and Ansarullah among others.
