DUSHANBE, 07.11.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On November 5, at the Etihad Stadium in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Shavkat Rahimov defeated Briton Zelf Barrett in a fight for the IBF world champion title in the second featherweight division.
Initially Rahimov was supposed to fight with the undefeated Welshman Joe Cordina. But a few weeks before the fight, Cordina broke his left arm.
As for Rahimov, he goes undefeated as a professional — 15-0-1. He has already fought once for the IBF belt against Joseph Diaz. But their fight ended in a draw.
The representative of Tajikistan had almost all of his other fights exclusively in Russia, where he lives and trains. The final part of the camp was held in the famous Wild Card hall, which is owned by the legendary trainer Freddie Roach who discovered the great Manny Pacquiao. It was Roach who was in Rahimov’s corner.
