Tajikistan and Belgium Discuss a Wide Range of Cooperation

DUSHANBE, 23.09.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On September 22 in Brussels, the Prosecutor General of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon held meetings with the Prosecutor General of Belgium Frederic Van Leeuw, the Director General of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belgium Freddy Roosemont, and the Head of the Coordination Group of Belgium for Risk Analysis (CUTA) Geert Vercouteren.
The meetings focused on a wide range of legal cooperation between the two countries, the process of considering draft agreements on the extradition of criminals, providing legal assistance in criminal cases, returning convicts to further serve their sentences, jointly combating terrorism and extremism, transnational organized crime, cybercrime, illicit drug trafficking and other topical issues.
The issues of simplifying the stay of Tajik citizens in Belgium, receiving citizens illegally residing in each other’s territory, as well as simplifying the visa regime for persons with special status were discussed at the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belgium.
At the CUTA, which has powers similar to the Unified Information Center for the Prevention of Extremism, Terrorism and Cybercrime of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Tajikistan, an agreement was reached that the two centers will establish mutually beneficial cooperation with each other and sign the relevant documents about cooperation.
