DUSHANBE, 30.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – “Today, more than 500 accredited journalists from both domestic and international media outlets are covering the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation in Dushanbe. This remarkable level of media presence reflects the growing global recognition of the urgency of glacial melt,” said Shohin Samadi, Head of the Information and Press Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, in an interview with NIAT “Khovar.”
According to Samadi, Tajikistan places high importance on ensuring comprehensive media coverage of glacier-related challenges. In this regard, all necessary conditions have been created to facilitate the work of journalists at the conference venues. A fully equipped press center, high-speed internet access across all event locations, and open access to forums and plenary sessions are just some of the facilities in place.
Accredited journalists are also provided with opportunities to interview heads of delegations, subject-matter experts, and leading scientists engaged in glaciological research and climate studies.

“The calls by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon for global action to protect glaciers and combat climate change have resonated strongly on the international stage,” Samadi emphasized. “This High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation in Dushanbe is a clear demonstration of the world’s awareness of the magnitude of this crisis and its readiness to pursue joint solutions. The focus here is not only on scientific and environmental aspects but also on practical approaches to addressing one of the most pressing threats of the 21st century.”
He added: “The active involvement of journalists, their deep understanding of the issue, and high-quality reporting will play a crucial role in raising global awareness. Today, the media is not only a tool for information dissemination — it is a powerful driver of public opinion and an influential voice in shaping the international climate agenda. The global journalistic community has the capacity to inspire solidarity and catalyze the collective action needed to safeguard glaciers as a strategic resource for future generations.”
