Strengthening Cooperation Between SCO Trade Union Organizations Discussed in Beijing

DUSHANBE, 21.05.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – A meeting of trade union leaders from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held in Beijing on May 15–16, organized by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

According to the SCO Secretariat in Beijing, this was the first event of its kind, initiated by the Chinese side. Discussions were held under several key themes: “Deepening Humanitarian Exchanges to Strengthen Mutual Understanding Between the Peoples of SCO Member States,” “Consolidating Efforts of Trade Unions to Fulfill the Mission of the SCO,” and “Overcoming Modern Challenges and Jointly Developing Measures to Protect Workers’ Rights.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Batyr Tursunov noted that convening this meeting as part of the Chinese presidency’s action plan is a tangible step toward implementing the decisions of the SCO Heads of State, particularly in promoting the welfare of workers.

He highlighted that the meeting’s agenda underscores the shared vision of development within the SCO framework and emphasized the critical role of trade unions in upholding labor rights and social justice. The SCO Secretariat, he said, stands ready to support further exchange of experience and enhanced cooperation among the trade union organizations of member states.

The meeting was attended by heads of trade union organizations from SCO member states, as well as representatives from Mongolia and Turkmenistan.
