DUSHANBE, 04.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – Wang Xiyin, a journalist from China Global Television Network (CGTN), commended Tajikistan’s leadership in raising global awareness of glaciers’ preservation and regional water security during the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held in Dushanbe from May 29 to 31.
In an interview with a Khovar correspondent, Wang emphasized the urgency of the issue:
“I found it’s a great opportunity for countries to be aware of the importance of glaciers. Tajikistan provides about 60% of Central Asia’s water resources, so glacier melting is a major concern. It’s essential for countries to come together to solve this problem.”
She also drew parallels with China’s own efforts in high-altitude regions:
“We have many glaciers in China as well, and our scientists are conducting numerous expeditions to prevent their melting. Climate change is a global crisis — we are all facing severe conditions now. It’s a crucial time to unite and think seriously about what we must do for our countries and our shared future.”
Wang, who visited Tajikistan for the first time, spoke warmly about the hospitality she experienced:
“The people are really friendly. We felt warmly welcomed — even strangers on the street would talk to us. That left a strong impression.”
She concluded by emphasizing the positive state of bilateral relations:
“It’s a good thing that China and Tajikistan enjoy such a strong relationship. Cooperation like this is vital for tackling shared environmental challenges.”
The Glaciers’ Conference in Dushanbe convened more than 2,600 participants from over 90 countries, serving as a key platform for international dialogue on climate resilience, glacier science, and water resource management.
