DUSHANBE, 03.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – A Japanese researcher from Kyoto University emphasized Tajikistan’s pivotal role in regional water sustainability during the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held in Dushanbe from May 29 to 31.
The event brought together more than 2,600 participants from over 90 countries, international organizations and development partners.
Speaking to a Khovar correspondent, Kenji Tanaka, a researcher focused on water resource analysis in Central Asia, shared his thoughts on the importance of Tajikistan’s initiatives.
«I’m working on water resource analysis in Central Asia. That’s why I came here,” he said. “This conference gathers people from nearly 90 countries — it’s truly impressive.”
He praised the organization and atmosphere of the conference, describing the venue as “excellent, beautiful, and wonderful.”
Highlighting Tajikistan’s key geographic and hydrological role, Tanaka stated: “Tajikistan should play an important role because it has many glaciers that feed water to downstream countries. This is a very good initiative by the President of Tajikistan.”
He also underlined the need for stronger cooperation in the region: “Enhancing good relations with neighboring countries is vital for addressing water resource issues. I sincerely hope for deeper collaboration among Central Asian nations.”
The conference served as a major platform for dialogue and scientific exchange on the preservation of glaciers and sustainable water resource management in the face of climate change.
