Tajikistan Highlights Disaster Risk Reduction Efforts at UN Global Platform in Geneva

DUSHANBE, 07.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – At the 8th Session of the UN Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, held from June 2–6 in Geneva, Tajikistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Chair of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Sulaymon Ziyozoda, presented the country’s latest strategies and progress in building resilience against natural disasters.

Speaking before international delegates, Ziyozoda outlined Tajikistan’s implementation of the Sendai Framework, the National DRR Strategy (2019–2034), and the State Program for the Protection of Population and Territories (2023–2028).

Tajikistan emphasized its commitment to multi-sectoral coordination, early warning systems, and sustainable infrastructure development.

On the sidelines, the Tajik delegation held bilateral meetings with officials from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Swiss National Platform for DRR, UNDRR, UNDP, and other key partners.

The delegation also visited the MeteoSwiss Regional Center and the UN Office at Geneva.

Ziyozoda underscored Tajikistan’s readiness to expand international cooperation in disaster risk reduction and to contribute to global resilience-building efforts.
