DUSHANBE, 04.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – Arnaud Caiserman, a researcher at the University of Central Asia (UCA), praised Tajikistan for creating a valuable platform for collaboration between scientists and policymakers during the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held in Dushanbe from May 29 to 31 under the initiative of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

In an interview with a Khovar correspondent, Caiserman emphasized the importance of the event in advancing dialogue on climate change, water resources, and mountain ecosystems.

«I work on natural resources, water, and snow in high-elevation mountains,» said Caiserman. «With my institute at the University of Central Asia, we study the impact of temperature changes on the snowpack and related conditions.»

He described the conference as a very useful event that brought together a wide range of stakeholders — from scientists and researchers to policy and decision makers — to foster meaningful exchanges.

“It’s rare to have such a space where science and policy meet so directly. It allows us to share scientific insights while also better understanding the expectations and practical limitations faced by policymakers,” Caiserman noted.

He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Tajikistan for hosting such a large-scale and inclusive platform.

“Thanks to President Emomali Rahmon for organizing this. It was big, diverse, and an excellent networking opportunity. It helped paint a clearer picture of what’s being done and where we’re going.”

Caiserman, who is living in Tajikistan since 2020, concluded warmly:

“I’m very happy here. I like it very much.”

The Glaciers’ Conference in Dushanbe gathered over 2,600 participants from more than 90 countries, including high-level officials, scientists, and representatives of international organizations, to discuss the urgent challenges of glaciers’ melt and water security in the context of climate change.
